Recovery International Meeting Structure

When you attend a typical Recovery International peer-led meeting, you can expect the following:

  • Reading – The group reads a short section from one of Dr. Abraham Low’s books.
  • Examples – Participants take turns describing an event from everyday life that caused distress. They explain how they used Recovery International tools to address their discomfort and control their responses.
  • Spotting – After each example, other members offer additional Recovery “tools” (also called spots) for the example-giver.
  • Mutual Aid – The end of the meeting is a time for informal discussion. It is a good time to ask questions about the meeting content or seek clarification on the tools/spots you heard others give.
  • Voluntary Contributions – Recovery International is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit. We do not charge for meetings, need referrals, or work with insurance companies, making us easy to join! Participants are asked to help support the organization with a suggested donation ($5-7 per meeting). However, no one is turned away due to an inability to contribute. If you can’t afford to contribute right now, that’s okay. A lack of funds should not deter you from attending.
